The S-PRESTO study investigates pre-pregnancy influences on mother and child health. Recent studies suggest that a mother’s health and nutrition before, during and after pregnancy may affect pregnancy outcomes such as birth size, as well as influence the risk for obesity, type-2 diabetes (T2DM), cardiovascular disease, and growth and brain development of her child.
We hope to study the effects of a woman’s well-being, nutrition, lifestyle, and emotional health prior to and soon after pregnancy on future bodily functions of her offspring and brain development that have not been previously investigated.
We will be inviting 1,000 women, between the ages of 18 to 35 years old, who plan to get pregnant and eventually deliver in KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Singapore. These women will be recruited prior to pregnancy, and followed up through their pregnancy, until their child is 2 years old.
